UNICEF G4G KFW PROJECT

UNICEF G4G KFW PROJECT IN ADAMAWA STATE.

WREP is currently implementing a UNICEF G4G KFW project in Adamawa State titled: Inclusion of Life skills and Citizenship education in school plans through Girls for Girls initiative in the Resilience Integrated Education Programming for Children in Northeast Nigeria. The aim of G4G is to create a platform for empowering girls with knowledge, skills and confidence to exercise the right to enrol and remain in school and be role model to other girls.

Specific Objectives
The specific objectives of the project include:

  • Increase the completion rate of girls enrolled in KFW schools.
  • Increase the proportion of girls who score above 60% average in their class and final public exams in upper primary school classes of KFW schools.
  • Increase the number of girls that transit from primary to secondary school in KFW project schools.
  • Increase the proportion of girls participating in the G4G mentoring programme who feel safe, supported and self-confident within the community and the KFW schools’ environment.

Expected Results

It is expected that at the end of this project:

  • 2,899 girls as part of Girls for Girls (G4G) groups develop life skills and support to remain in school and mentoring and role modelling of G4G girls in 270 schools in Adamawa State.
  • 2,899 boys and 2,899 men would have been trained in 270 schools as champions for girls’ education and gender/ positive masculinity in Adamawa State.
  • Capacity building activities covering various areas related to life skills are carried out. A curriculum has already been developed and is being implemented in other states with UNICEF support.

Other G4G Group Activities

The group will organize a range of activities that will help girls open up and talk to each other, identifying risks and challenges to their education and strategies for managing them. Some of the activities include:

  • Interactive peer to peer and small group discussions.
  • Songs, storytelling
  • Drama
  • Games/sporting events
  • Debating
  • Training
  • Home Visits
  • Girls Holiday Camps
  • Reading Hubs by volunteer facilitators.
