Still after two years of the project implementation, Beneficiaries and Donor were satisfied and pleased with the Outcome… {@WREP we Effectively and Reliably commit Resources to the best use to provide Value}.

The donation of Hospital Equipment to Bwari General Hospital by Japan Embassy was implemented by Women’s Right to Education Programme WREP and commissioned by the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria in conjunction with the FCT and Health Ministers (represented) in June, 2016.

The post implementation visit to Bwari general hospital was conducted by the Japan Embassy GGP team together with Women’s Right to Education Programme (WREP), for the purpose of assessing that the project objectives were met, to determine the effective usage of the equipment provided, to learn lessons for the future, and to ensuring that the greatest possible benefit from the project are broadly shared.

In his warm and welcoming remarks, the MD. Bwari General Hospital appreciated the GGP team from the Embassy of Japan for their kind gesture and tireless monitoring throughout the project implementation. He also acknowledged the contributions from the people of Japan to the people of Nigeria especially in the health sector around the country. He also thanked WREP the implementing partner for given value to the resources. added that the hospital lead management have greatly enjoyed a good relationship with WREP and have gotten a satisfactory service delivered by the organization and are pleased with the outcome because the donated Equipment has been effective and turning things around.

The GGP Coordinator and Grant Assistant was thankful for the warm reception and said that their presence was to see how the donated equipment are being used after two (2) years of implementation.

The Medical Director Bwari General Hospital led the visiting team on the post implementation assessment of the donated hospital equipment. The assessment took place at the following hospital units;

  • Doctor’s office
  • Theater
  • Female ward
  • Two private wards
  • Labor Room
  • Children’s Room and
  • Laboratory
  • Optical unit

At the end of the exercise, all the equipment were intact and 85% in very good shape. Equipment ranging from Stethoscopes, Digital Thermometers and Operating Beds, Sorption Machine, Incubators, Forceps, Trash Carts, Optic Equipment and lots more. The GGP team from the Japanese Embassy were very impressed by the outcome and how effective the equipment’s are being used.

Updating the New GGP team on the visit, the MD. Bwari General Hospital said that the hospital comprises of 19 doctors, 78 nurses and midwives and 6 record staff. He said that the Japanese people through this project have greatly enhanced the service delivery beyond the hospital community. He said that over 200 patients have received treatment within the community and outside. The statistics of the patient treated – successes, failed as well as transferred cases was also given to the post-implementing team. The Medical Director of the hospital added that the equipment had really helped the management team and patients who prior to the implementation had to travel miles away for medical treatments, could now get treatment in the hospital as all the cases has been managed profoundly well.

The GGP Coordinator and team expressed satisfaction at the end of the review exercise and said that they hope for more partnership with WREP and that as part of their mission in Nigeria, health and wellness is a priority and it is apparent that medical equipment in Nigeria are inadequate which is why they have decided to lend a hand. “Anything else the hospital needs desperately?” she asked. Of course (Oliver asked for more), the Medical Director politely requested for a higher capacity generator that could replace the present-old and worn-out hospital generator to help optimize the use of the equipment.
